Kaudulla National Park

Kaudulla National Park is 130km from Kandy and is one of the most scenic national parks in the country. Known as a bird’s paradise,Kaudulla Park was opened in 2002 but over the years it has attracted a large number of indigenous and migrant birds. It has been recorded that there are over 160 species of birds found at this park.

The park is bordering on one of the irrigation tanks built by an ancient King of Sri Lanka, Mahasen. This is probably the main reason why it allures wild animals and birds.Kaudullla is a popular tourist destination because you can see many wild elephants at close range. Apart from elephants there are other mammals and reptiles to be found. Frequent sightings are: the Sloth Bear, Sri Lankan Sambar Deer, Grey Slender Loris and freshwater turtles such as, the Indian Black Turtle and the Indian Flap Shelled Turtle. Kaudulla is also one of the only places where you could spot an albino Sri Lankan Axis Deer.
